Financial institution that serves as Canada's primary central bank. The Bank of Canada Act of 1934 founded the institution as a way to monitor and regulate the country's money supply. The institution officially started its operations on March 11, 1935. The Bank of Canada has sole discretion over the amount of money it produces and because of this fact the amount of money it issues greatly effects the value of the Canadian dollar.
